The research of Isaac Abotebuni Akolgo uses incorporated comparison and stratification economics to understand how global financial structures and domestic socio-political forces constraint Ghanaian governmental policy space and the distributive effect of monetary policy respectively. Focusing more on the post 2001 HIPC debt relief, he attempts to understand how extractivism, neoliberal capitalism and the emergence of China sustains, aggravates and perpetuates Ghana’s economic and monetary dependence on the global north.
