Area of expertise: International Political Economy, offshore finance, state power, international monetary politics
Andrea Binder is a research fellow at the Free University Berlin and a non-resident fellow at the Global Public Policy Institute. She holds a PhD in Politics and International Studies from the University of Cambridge where she was awarded a Gates Cambridge Scholarship. Her research is based on two pillars. First, Andrea studies global finance with a focus on offshore financial services. She is particularly interested in how offshore finance affects the power relationships within and between states (Binder 2019). Her current research focuses specifically on offshore money creation and its consequences for a international monetary system based on the US-dollar. Andrea’s second area of interest is the politics of humanitarianism. Here she focuses on the political economy of humantiarian reform, effectiveness of protecting civilians (Binder, Reichhold 2014) and non-Western donors (Binder, Meier 2011).
