Stefano Sgambati has established his research agenda on money and finance with two articles that set out the contours of an original sociology of money-making, banking and debt finance. He is currently working on an article that builds upon his recent publication (“Rethinking banking” (2016)), and which deals with the question of how bank agency is involved in the making of modern financial relations and what role is played by leverage, financial equity and legal trust in this process. More generally, Sgambati is interested in developing a methodology, based on semiotics, for politicising and historicising practices of money-making and their corresponding processes of monetisation.
